Second album from independent Dutch band Nephylim who play modern melodeath drawing on bands like Be'lakor, Insomnium and Wolfheart. If I had not known, I would have guessed that they were Finnish, judging by their keen ear for gloomy melody and general melancholy, but also gritty aggression when needed. Melodic death metal these days is an overcrowded genre with so much crap being churned out on a weekly basis, that it's good to find something worth diving into. Nephylim may not provide anything extraordinarily original, but they write killer riffs, with sufficient hooks wrapped in a crisp and modern sound, soaring melodies with well-executed keys that are never overdone. This is definitely an album that is worth a shot. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
