This is a new band playing black/death metal inspired by the '90s mainstays, mixing both the more brutal and raw stuff with the more melodic but no less dark bands like Dissection, to name only one. Overall I'd say the Dissection-like stuff is more prevalent, which is, of course, a good thing. No lack of speed and heaviness, you can get whiplash trying to keep up with some of this stuff, also punctuated with a slower, melodic and sorrowful instrumental closer. It's not exactly original—how many times have I said this over the years—but it's well executed with some strong songs filled with melodies that stick once the EP is over. Hopefully we'll be hearing more from Path of Redemption in the future. |
