Iron Spell plays the kind of meat-and-potatoes heavy metal that I grew up on, and their second album, From the Grave, features lots of Maiden-esque riffs, high-pitched vocals, dancing solos, etc. They go at their songs hammer and tongs, with lots of energy and the occasional hook that is hard to dislodge from the brain, like the chorus of "Devil King." There is some quality stuff on From the Grave, but I feel like the writing could be tighter and more focused, especially the vocal lines, which sometimes work and sometimes go off on their own. Iron Spell have the right idea, so if you are a follower of the new traditional metal scene and bands like White Wizzard, Sin Starlett, Haunt, etc., give them a listen.
