Phantomy are a Finnish band and they sound like it, with that stripped-down '80s metal sound with an unashamed kick of glam/sleaze hard rock in the mix. If you like similar line-straddling bands like Accept, Diamond Head, or Krokus, then this will be familiar territory. Singer Samu Karhu has the requisite sneering, nasal tenor, and the riffs and leads rock out with their cock out. It's not taking itself too seriously and that keeps it fun. The Finns call this kind of thing "kikkelihevi" ("dick metal") and that tells you what you need to know. |
