It's been more than 13 years since I last reviewed a Desaster album (2012's The Arts of Destruction, an album I quite liked), so I was looking forward to 2025's Kill All Idols. Little has changed with regards to this band's thrashy, blackened assault on the world's eardrums, made up of bashing, rolling drums, chunky, thundering riffs and spiteful vocals. Their influences, bands like Venom, Possessed, Sodom, etc., are still apparent, though Desaster have amped things up with the intent of swarming you under a thick, suffocating blanket of black/thrash metal. I'm not finding Kill All Idols as memorable as I recall The Arts of Destruction being and the songs run together a bit, so as an album, it kills but not in a particularly memorable way. That said, if you want your black/thrash to do away with any attempts to be anything but black/thrash, no trad riffs, no death technicality, Desaster are your band.
