This is the 8th and 9th albums by this German band, who have been digging in the underground for 20 years now. I honestly can't tell if these are being put out in a single package, but they're being released on the same day and they sent me both as one file, so that's how I'm going to review it.

Waldgeflüster share sounds with other big, epic pagan bands like Drudkh, Saor, or Finsterforst, but they do have their own sound. There is more of a focus on vocal variety here, mixing rasps, growls, screams and some clean sounds. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The band has a tendency to mix the vocals too loud, so you can't hear the good stuff the music is doing because they keep shouting over it, and I don't enjoy that. It seems like more often than I would like, these very long songs will morph into repetitive background music while the vocals hack away pedantically in the foreground.

There are moments of genuine beauty on this massive pair of albums, but a lot of these songs are long just to be long, and the music is just repeating itself while the vocalist just will. Not. Shut. Up. I want to enjoy this more than I do, but I really feel like this band needs to learn to edit themselves and not just throw every idea they ever had into the same album.
