Singles are kind of a weird thing in the digital age, but this debut from Italy's Elsinore does it right and old school: Two songs released on 7" vinyl. And you guessed it, this is old-school death metal going back to the early '90s, so Elsinore isn't trying to be original here. That said, this is some pretty cool speedy, tight death metal with a good headbanging beat throughout and those guitars sure made me want to crank out the air guitar more than once. I like the raspy growls that fit the raw music very well, but I can't say I could decipher all the lyrics. There are some memorable melodies in here that stick around once this short release is over, so even though this is overall fast, it's not just a bullet train smashing through your speakers. Looking forward to the debut album, which is apparently in the works at the time of writing. |
