This is a one-man band from Kansas of all fucking places, and it's actually pretty fucking good. This is real Black/Death Metal, with a Death guitar tone and drums along with the more melodic riffing and greater nuance more typical of Black Metal. The vocals may be a sticking point, as they are an almost Thrash style of strained howl rather than the rasping or gargling you would expect. I do find they add a bit of distinction, as it is not the typical approach.

The more I listen to this, the better I like it. It has an overall sound that draws on stuff like Angelcorpse or Blood Storm without being as frenetic or fast. There's more layer and subtlety to this than you would think on first listen, and the songs are actually very carefully constructed, with a lot of detail in the guitar work especially without veering into tech territory. I find this a really satisfying listen because there is always something new and interesting going on, more layering, more riffs and time changes. It manages to be very complex without ending up being proggy or technical in any of the usual ways. This band is going places I like.
