When I looked on Metal Archives and saw Forgotten Reveries is the fourth album from this French power metal band by the name of Darktribe, it made me wonder if I'd encountered them before. Sure enough, I reviewed their debut album way back in 2012. Based on that review, Darktribe has improved, most notably in their songwriting. Where I found Mysticeti Victoria uneven, Forgotten Reveries is consistently good all the way through. I always tend to like faster power metal best, but even the slower songs here are well constructed. Darktribe's music has a definite Sonata Arctica vibe between the high-pitched vocals and penchant for introspective melodies, but the hints of Heavenly from the debut are still there, along with bands like Axxis and even a bit of Kamelot. I can't say Darktribe are doing anything new, but they do what they do at a high level, so fans of ultra-melodic power metal should find plenty of joy while spinning Forgotten Reveries.
