Second album for this act out of Germany. Firmament are not wearing influences from anything recorded since about 1987, as their breed of classic Heavy Metal is harking back to the time before there were 900 subgenres. Their riffs are derivative but have an infectious energy, and while their songwriting is a bit hit-or-miss, when they hit, they will get your head banging. Vocalist Marco Hermann has a similar kind of oddball style to Alec Firicano from Ravage, and, in fact, at their best Firmament remind me of the similar joys of Spectral Rider and The Edge of Tomorrow. All of this is cast in the mold of old-school sounds like Riot or Vicious Rumors in the ancient days, and while the album is uneven, songs like "A Legend of the Fall" or "Starbeast" will get you playing air guitar with their careening energy.
