I always find it weird when a band releases a selft-titled album after so much time but what the heck. :) "The Grave Digger" is not a concept album part of a trilogy like the last three albums, but rather just a "back to basics" no-frills, pure heavy metal album (that's right, contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a power metal band.) The album contains essentially mid to fast-paced rockers, and the digipak edition contains a bonus track that's mostly a ballad. This one is ok but I do not recommend getting the digipak just for this song, it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album. Nevertheless, once again Grave Digger treat us with nearly one hour of strong metal compositions and the band's experience and musicianship shows and is undisputable. Very good melodies, killer solos and drumming, and the Chris' vocals, while disliked by many, are quite fitting to the crunching guitars and the overall heaviness of the material. The music and vocals fit very well together. The production is very good on this album as well.

Once again it is worth mentionning the quality of the cover art, well in league with the past few albums. Makes me wish I had this on LP just to have a larger version of this piece of art! Grave Digger show no sign of wanting to stop anytime soon and that, my friends, is very good news. Highly recommend to fans of real heavy metal!
