Pnuk have always been a fun band, making safe but reliable crossover thrash from the start, and I've enjoyed their work for some time despite never finding it to be great. However, their latest release, Endless Black Horizon, shows them taking a step towards something heavier and more mature than before. There's not really a change in style, this is still based on razor-edged thrash riffs fusing with streetwise hardcore attitude and enough melodic flair to be catchy, they just decided to crank everything into the red and use the blast to melt your face while occasionally screaming some surprisingly thoughtful lyrics into the charred remains of your ears. Every track is a violent and entertaining workout for your neck muscles that's bound to shake your brain into formless mush, with a production that's raw enough to feel lively yet sharp enough to make every gang shout and tempo shift land like a brick to the face. This is easily the band's best album to date, and if they keep up the momentum, I'd say they have the makings of greatness in them. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
