Take it to the Grave is album number three from the U.K.'s Slander, a band that plays a hard-rocking style of heavy metal that calls up echoes of the '80s. The gritty shouts and direct, full-force guitars bring to mind bands such as Keel and W.A.S.P., with the high-pitched screams inviting a bit of Krokus (Headhunter and earlier) to the party. The songwriting on this disc isn't quite as good (the choruses are still too repetitive) as on their previous one (2017's Resolution Defiance), but there is enough beefy riffing and acrobatic soloing in pretty much every track to keep you reaching for the air guitar no matter where you plop down the needle. Slander plays no frills, meat-and-potatoes music for fans that don't need their bands to fool around or try to be fancy, just get right to the point of playing heavy metal.
