One-man bands aren't nearly common in traditional heavy metal as they are in black metal, but for Andreas Thunbo (Oath of Woe, Peine, Pugnator), that's his modus operandi. His latest solo creation is Turbo's Tribunal and the debut album Mills of Tribunal. Crisp riffs and supporting keys trade catchy melodies, while Thunbo's high-pitched singing complements the music as it rides over the top. The songwriting is influenced by bands of the early '80s, especially the NWOBHM and other underground groups, with an epic and occult vibe running throughout. Songs like "Satan is Here" and "Death Gallop" are rife with that underground mystique mainstream music simply didn't have in the '80s, making Mills of Tribunal a feast for fans of underground metal, especially bands like Mercyful Fate, Manilla Road, Manowar, etc. Mills of Tribunal is a worthy debut from Thunbo's Turbo's Tribunal and I'm already anxious for more. |
