This is a Polish band who play very basic Heavy Metal with a slight Iron Maiden/Omen feel to it. I have been listening to this for about a week now, trying to decide what I think of it. My two conclusions about this music are One: It's terrible, and Two: I like it quite a bit. Mostly Dragon's Eye are pretty cool, with chunky riffing and some catchy tunes. But there is almost nothing about their music that is not cliché or derivative. About the only distinctive feature of this band is their vocalist, who is of the rough-but-tuneful school rather than the usual castrati style. He sounds, in all honesty, almost exactly like James Hetfield used to – in other words he sucks. I like the approach, but he's just not a good singer. "Crimson Legion", "Blindman" and "Heavy Machine" are all pretty cool, but the band has a habit of writing songs with very repetitive choruses, which would not be as bad if they weren't so annoying (as on "The Truth"). Simplistic songs, derivative songwriting, so-so musicianship, and downright bad vocals. All that said, I come helplessly back to the fact that I actually like this disc. This whole demo can be downloaded from their website, and if you liked Maiden's early stuff, it might be something to check out. This isn't a good band, but they are fun. |
