One of the lost underground gems is the 1990 demo by Greek band Ageless Wisdom, a 2-track release that has been endlessly bootlegged for the past 36 years since it is so darned good and tantalizes with what could have been. Royal Altar is the current home of former Ageless Wisdom bassist/vocalist/lyricist Sotiris Poulidis, which would make this of interest even if it was not as good as it is. This was put out independently about a year and a half ago, and slipped in under almost everybody's radar. That's a shame, because this is a quality slab of Traditional Metal flavored with just a dash of the epic styling you expect from a Greek band. I could make comparisons to bands like Battleroar, Holy Martyr, or Sacred Blood, but this also has some similarities to classic US Metal like Attacker or Aska in the old days—Poulidis even sounds a good bit like George Call. This is just class Heavy Metal with good riffs, excellent vocals, and prime lead work. Nobody's heard of this band, but you should check them out. |
