The third album from Czechia's Induction brings another round of lineup changes with a new vocalist, guitarist and drummer in the fold. There's also been a stylistic change to the songwriting, which is still catchy power metal but less symphonic and instead glossier and more accessible. There are still plenty of neoclassical guitar solos and keyboard runs and the interplay between the two is delightful, supporting vocal lines that will worm their way into your subconscious. There are typical power metal anthems like "The Veil of Affection" and "Steel and Thunder," that feature double-kick speed and those aforementioned solos, but also some pop-adjacent tracks like "Strangers to Love" with male and female plaintive vocal dueting, and "Virtual Insanity" with its vocal effects and ubiquitous keys (and wasn't that the title of a song by Jamiroquai? It doesn't seem to be a cover, thankfully!) The bottom line is Induction have delivered another enjoyable power metal album that stands on the shoulders of genre pioneers like Rhapsody of Fire and Gamma Ray (guitarist Tim Hansen is Helloween guitarist Kai Hansen's son), it just isn't as crunchy as their last one, which, in my opinion, was one of its strengths.
