After the murder of Hades, the singer, guitarist and driving force behind Chile's Lucifer's Hammer, his brother Titán chose to continue their shared love of traditional heavy metal under a new name, Burning Path. The songwriting isn't as overtly Iron Maiden-esque, though the bass and harmony guitars on "The Darkness the Will Last" are certainly in the vein. I find the songwriting on their self-titled debut to have a bit more hard rock accessibility in places, like the debuts from Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard, but the entire proceeding is suitably heavy metal. Titán has taken over the vocals and, like his brother, gives it his all, but his all has its limitations; namely, his voice is high but thin and without a ton of weight behind it to really drive the songs and he's occasionally off-key. Still, it works for what Burning Path are doing and is rarely a distraction from their energetic and enthusiastic '80s heavy metal ambitions. A worthy next step down the path begun by Hades and Lucifer's Hammer. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
