Never heard this band before, and while I expected some kind of raw Black Metal, this is instead some rather US-sounding Trad Metal, with sounds from Manilla Road, Gatekeeper, Attacker, and so forth. The vocals are a bit odd, as they are mostly a style that has passed out of fashion, relying on heavily overdubbed lines that sound like a whole crowd all together, reminiscent of when occult rock bands used it in the '70s—I think this is mostly done to cover up the general weakness of the lead singer. There is some epic DNA here, with longer songs and often long buildups before things kick in. The guitar playing is really good, with excellent riffs and some great lead work, and the songs themselves are rather sprawling and could use some more shape to them. Overall this is a nicely retro-sounding package that manages to stand out from the crowd, mostly in good ways. A band to keep an eye on. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
