Another one of Dark Tranquillity's masterpieces; which is widely hailed as the bands best work. Anybody who thinks this is their best album obviously has not heard their demos and their full length debut "Skydancer".

In any case, let's not hinder the point to be made here by comparing this album to "Skydancer". "The Gallery" is probably the album that brought the band into the spotlight and gave them the wide acclaim that they deserve. Mikael Stanne takes the mic on this one while Anders Friden went on to join fellow Gothenburgers In Flames. "The Gallery" is an awesome disc, sure to please any melodic death metal fan. The trademark melodies of Dark Tranquillity as heard on their recent albums "Haven" and "Damage Done" actually originated right here, whereas anything prior to this was more raw and death metal oriented than anything else. Friden era was absolutely amazing, but when Stanne took charge on vocals, Dark Tranquillity underwent an evolution that fully maintained what one could expect from this legendary band.

Intricate song structures, quasi growls and raspy vocals, deep and poetic lyrics, double guitar shredding…the works. "The Gallery" is a total pleaser and I can't really say anything bad about it other than the fact that they have released better albums than this.

Anyway…Strongly recommended.
