Review

The Metal God is back in force.  Resurrection is a very strong come back for Rob Halford whose last project, Two, was pretty much a fiasco.  It sure as hell wasn't metal.  This first album by Rob's new band is a metal album with some Judas Priest-sounding songs, but yet it is not just a Priest rip-off like some were expecting.  Kicking off with the title track, a pretty speedy track where Halford makes great use of high-pitched vocals that most Halford-era Priest fan will enjoy, this album warns the skeptic listener that Halford still has it, and that they're in for quite a ride.  The first seven tracks are pretty strong compositions, including the semi-ballad "Silent Screams" which is pretty slow-paced for half the song and then speeds up for the last half, this is definitely one of my favorites.  It is followed by "The One You Love To Hate", where Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson is present both in the writing credits and on the vocals, an interesting song to hear, considering the caliber of the two vocalists.  Other songs such as "Made In Hell" and "Cyberworld" deserve a mention for being just great!

Things start to get a little less interesting with the 8th track, "Slow Down", as if the best tracks had all been put at the beginning of the album.  Maybe mixing those around a little bit would have helped.  Tracks 8 to 12 are still very good, strong songs, just not up to par with the first seven songs.

This is one of the best releases of 2000 so far, and Rob Halford shows that, at 49, he still got what it takes and still deserves the title of "Metal God", despite some of his comments a few years back.  Just buy the album and you'll forget all about that!
