This is a 3-song demo of the forthcoming Holocaust album. The band has been around for a long time and somehow I had never heard any of their stuff before. Their sound favors heaviness over speed, some parts being pretty slow actually. I'm a big fan of crunching guitars and I'm pretty well served in that department with this demo! The vocals are clean yet aggressive, very expressive and follow the mood of the music pretty well. The first song is quite aggressive while the second one has a doomish sound to it, quite melancholic (without being too depressing) at times. The third song starts off on a faster and more aggressive note, definitely faster that the first two although it does slow down in the middle for a couple of minutes to return to a faster beat thereafter. The production is definitely not perfect, a bit raw for this type of music, but this is to be expected from a demo. Those into heavy/thrash metal will probably get a kick out of the upcoming album. Think NWOBHM with a modern touch. It's hard to really judge based on 3 songs, but if the whole album is along the same line, it will be worth purchasing. One thing that can't be denied is that Holocaust's music's got attitude! Good stuff. Additional Information 3-song demo |
