Review

Ice Vinland's debut album definitely stands apart.  The band describes itself as epic progressive power metal, I'd say that's about right.  From the cover of the album, it's easy to figure that the band's music is very influenced by the Vikings, and that is confirmed beyond any doubts by the lyrics, to which the band has undoubtedly applied a lot of work.

There's a bit of narration on this album, something I don't usually like much, but it does feel appropriate on this concept album.  I find the songs are very tied together, in that you really have to listen to the whole album to like the music.  Listening to just one song will not do, as none can really stand on its own, which can be seen as an inconvenient - I wouldn't buy a single taken from this album.  All songs have a strong epic feel to them, most notably the title track, Masters Of The Sea (The Saga).  There's also a lot of change of tempo in every song, ranging from somewhat annoying to "just great" IMHO.   Again, the album has to be taken as a whole, not song by song.

-The vocals are very present throughout the album, and hearing the voice, no one will not be surprised to know that the band also does Iron Maiden covers :).  The musicians are very skilled as well, and this makes the whole album quite enjoyable.  There are some rough edges of course, but the vocalist did tell me to consider that this was recorded three years ago.  I understand from that that their new material will be more polished, and I can't wait to hear their next album.
