This is one of those rare CDs that gets more annoying every time you play it. Negative Creeps are a band who play an ill-advised mix of Death Metal and Hardcore, juuuust barely avoiding swerving into mallcore territory. I was wishing I could put this review on the Shit List, as those are easier to do, but this does still qualify as metal to my ears. Unfortunately, it still sucks ass. The riffs on this CD are actually OK, if you can ignore the flat, dull production job. But the songwriting is repetitive and the drumming stinks. The vocals are the really obnoxious part of this album, as the guy not only sounds like a blown-out Brett Hoffman (Malevolent Creation), but they are delivered in a kind of singsong meter that recalls bad hardcore vocals, and it gets harder and harder to listen to the more times you try. At first spin I thought this was OK, but after three listens I hate it, and I'm only reviewing it so I can cast it into the "Shitty Promo CD" box forevermore. There's a potential for some decent music here, but it gets buried under awful vocals, inept songwriting, hardcore gayness, and all-around bland production values. All in all, Negative Creeps are a band who have no especial reason to exist as far as I can see, as there are so many better bands out there that this hardly deserves the time it takes to throw the disc away. |
