Yet another of the modern extreme bands mixing Black Metal sound in with their Death Metal, Mind Ripper are a French act with one of the most illegible logos I have ever seen. This is their debut album, and it's not bad at all. This is Death/Black Metal with no keyboards, but a lot of melodic dash to the riffs. The vocals are a pretty standard raspy scream, and the recording job is clean and heavy. If I had to compare this to anyone, it might be Belphegor, or maybe more recent Marduk. It certainly isn't bad, but I guess I'm damning them with faint praise. The truth is Mind Ripper are a good enough band, and "Kahos Humana" is entertaining enough, but there is nothing to really make it stand out from the crowd. This album is enjoyable, but forgettable. Mindripper have chops, and will be worth watching for in the future, but this album is a bit too generic to get excited about. |
