It's official: Serpent have it in for me. :( I've been asking for a full-length for some four years now, and "Unleash the Fury" is another very short release. ARGH!!! Now the good news: This rules just as much, if not more than their previous material. The CD opens up on a weird-sounding "Release the fucking fury" (preceded by something that I can't quite make out) - one can't help but think of Yngwie Malmsteen's little airplane experience when hearing this. From then on, we are served with a Serpent-style death/thrash assault. As with the previous release, this tends more toward thrash than death metal, although the speed does make that line a little blurry at times. The vocals are also similar to their previous output, "extreme thrash"-style flirting with whaty is close to a death growl but not quite there, and usually clear enough for the lyrics to be decipherable. Other than the short length of their releases, Serpent have yet to disappoint. Despite the length, this is something that you can play on repeat for hours and not get tired of. Highspeed headbanging baby! Highly recommended. |
