Had to beg a little to get this demo, but it was worth it. Battle Ram are an Italian band playing True Metal of the variety that's becoming very big in Italy and Greece right now, and they play it well. Not surprisingly, Battle Ram sound a lot like other bands in the same vein, especially fellow latins Wotan, and a bit like the Greek masters Battleroar. So if you like either of those bands, then Battle Ram are a good band to watch for. Me, I love epic old-school stuff like this, so Battle Ram are just the thing for me. They get a good, crunchy guitar tone, especially for a demo, and the riffing and soloing are actually very good. The songs are longish, with a lot of different parts and time shifts to keep things going. Singer Daniel has a strong voice and can hit the highs, I can only hope their new singer can keep up the standard. The first two tunes are solid, but the best ones are "Dark Command" and the semi-titular "Battering Ram", the Cirith Ungol cover is fun too. Things are hopping with this band, as they have been gigging all over Europe with the likes of Brocas Helm, Jag Panzer, Wotan, Ironsword, and Manilla Road. I just hope they get enough time to lay down a proper album soon, as this taste of what they can do just whets my appetite for more. Recommended. |
