I've had this demo for a few weeks now, maybe longer, and mostly I can't think of what to say about it. Before Silence are a Belgian band that play Dream Theater-inflected Power Metal. They have a decent demo production, some good riffs, and pretty good vocals, though the mix is rough, and the singer has the expected accent. "Salvation" creates some energy, but the other two songs are just kind of enervated. There's nothing wrong with this music, but it lacks energia, momentum, call it what you want. It's the difference between music you listen to and nod, saying 'not bad, not bad' and music that gets your fist in the air. Before Silence have chops, but they just don't sound excited about their music. And if they aren't excited, why should we be? An okay demo, but not a showstopper. |
