An unmemorable demo from an unmemorable band. Phlegethon Animae stretch the limits of the pretension and derivative songwriting that have come to characterize 'melodic death metal' as it is usually known. This band combines standard rat-tat-tat Death Metal bits redolent of Hypocrisy or old N'FLAMEZ with Dream Theater driven keyboard wankery. The vocals are standard, the production is decent, and the songwriting is either dull or irritating. What does it mean when I say the keyboard bits are the best parts? It means this is all Dark Tranquility's fault.
