No, this has nothing to do with Mark Edward's band Overlorde, this is a Greek band built around the guitar wizardry of one Cosy "Overlord" Varras, plus a bunch of other veteran Greek players from all points of the compass. As expected with this kind of release, the show is long on prowess and short on chemistry. This isn't a shred record, as most of these songs have vocals, very good vocals in fact, provided by Vasilis Axiotis of Phantom Lord. The whole sound is a peppy Power Metal brew with unsurprising similarities to Iron Mask or Firewind. The guitarwork is very good, and there are some worthy songs here, like "Majesty" and the slow, doomy "Prince Of Darkness". But overall, this disc comes together as rather pedestrian, and while it is fun while it's on, you won't really remember it after. A band with promise. |
