It's amazing to me that this album, Monstrosity's third, was released in 1999, as it sounds like it came out in 1990. This band just missed the Death Metal wave of the late 80's, not getting a debut out until 1992, when it was all about over. Three albums in I have to say they aren't bad – they were never bad in the least, but this album is emblematic of why this band is doomed to also-ran status forever.
Monstrosity are brutal, and they have produced a fun DM album, but there is nothing distinct about this album at all, nothing to lift it above the ordinary and generic. Back in the day, when there were only 10,000 Death Metal bands as opposed to a million, being brutal and getting a decent guitar sound was enough, but by 1999 there were so many better bands it's not even funny. There are a hundred bands faster, or heavier, or more brutal, or with better riffs, or with something to say with their lyrics. Monstrosity missed the boat, and they show no interest in catching it now. For completely middle-of-the-road Death Metal this is a good shot, but while it is competent, it has nothing to especially recommend it either.
