Lisiya Gori have a weird name, which isn't any less weird when you know they got it from War And Peace – I don't remember it, but then I haven't read that book in like 15 years. Anyway, this is a 3-song demo from this Alabama band, and it's pretty good. Lisiya Gori play a fast, abusive breed of Death/Thrash with just a tiiiny hint of Gothenburg melody thrown in. The production is really solid, the guitarwork is first-rate, and even the vocals are executed with conviction. The drum sound is pretty crappy, but you can't win everything. This is professionally played metal, but it just is not anything I have not heard at least a hundred times before. Right now pretty much the only thing that stands out about Lisiya Gori is their name, and that ain't gonna be enough. I like this disc, but it is nothing new at all, and these days that's the kiss of – er – death for a Death Metal band. Definite potential here though. A band to watch. |
