On the whole, a successful metal band will have the odd DVD released throughout their career, featuring the expected live performance, a couple of videos and maybe a 'backstage' interview if you're lucky. This is not the case for Therion though, ohhhh no, they've gone ten steps further than that. What they've released here is an absolute fiend of a package, which no fan of the band would be in their right mind to pass up the chance of owning. The band have basically compiled, compacted and compressed their entire career onto 4 DVD's, and 2 CD's, spanning from their embryonic years as a sinister death metal band with a brooding 'My Dying Bride' twist, to the very present operatic symphonic metal beast they are today. Enclosed in this monster set is no less than two entire live sets (one from Mexico in 2004, and also their fantastic set at Wacken festival), not to mention a 'round the world' map with a few tracks each from various gigs in each country they've played in. This is all inclusive of the usual backstage antics, a complete set of the bands music videos and a chronological band timeline 'roadmap', featuring even more live performances, interviews and behind the scenes mayhem. There is so much packed into this little baby that I'd be positive that you would be able to virtually see the digital information teetering on the edge of the groaning DVD's (although, I just had the incomplete taster disc to go by for review purposes, you can still get the unprecedented 'no stone unturned' vibe). This is no doubt a release for the fans, but also the perfect foot in the door for someone who has wanted to check Therion out, but hasn't had a clue where to start in their mammoth discography. If only all band DVD's could be like this! |
