This is one of the few albums out there where even before you listen to the content, you already know that it will have its way with you. Just look at that fucking cover, read those song titles… Does it say anything other than raw, under-produced 80's speed metal that will snap your neck? Razor has been a long standing Canadian speed tradition and has enjoyed a decent following over the years. But this is 1985, by which time Canada too could boast a handful of merciless residents that could pound metal just as fast and hard as all the other big boys. One of these incarnations came in the form of "Executioner's Song" – simply an unforgiving and extremely fun album to shake your head to. Nothing really out of the ordinary to describe here – it's just fist-pounding, fast and head banging metal from the heyday that we just can't seem to let go of. Razor are a pretty simplistic band and they really do not mix things up too much. But that's all we want from them anyway and every track on the list here follows just about the same pattern. Starts off with insane chops, rhythm kicks in at high speed and then soon enough the vocals of Stace Mclaren jolt in by which time your skull can't stop knocking itself around. Just listen to the mammoth opener, or better – "City Of Damnation". And if you can resist the urge to head-bang, then I really don't know what you're made of. Mine the vast lands of Canada if you're digging for some killer old school thrash. You'll be pleasantly surprised - Razor perhaps being the highlight of the speed camp. |
