Hailing from Athens, Greece, Raw In Sect started out in 2005 and this release marks their first demo. The music on offer is a proficient brand of occasionally thrashy, progressive death metal, and for a demo, this is shit hot. OK, so the sound has the typical demo production which isn't quite there, but the musicianship certainly is – there's more than a few times when I'm pleasantly reminded of early Atheist, with riffage occasionally slipping into the Bolt Thrower trademark of chuggy riffs with a barrage of double bass to match. The technical guitar work weaves its way around the climbing expressive bass similar to that heard on the first two Sadist albums, while the strong yet not over the top drum work fixes a strong framework for the whole structure to take shape. The vocals are fairly clean cut, easily understandable yet powerful roar which add that extra something over a lot of demo bands. Overall pretty impressive for a demo stage band, and after reading on their press blurb that they're hoping to release a full length in 2008, I've no doubt it'll be absolutely killer if it's an improvement along the lines they've followed thus far on this demo. A future hope? Quite possibly judging by this. |
