Interesting new band from Denmark here. My first thought on hearing the music (after the acoustic intro) is that they play black metal with death metal growls, and yet incorporate guitar riffs that seem heavily influenced by thrash, if not pure heavy metal (the band describes itself as death metal), resulting in interesting melodies. I was hooked right away by the first song. Apart from the acoustic part, it's a very fast-paced song. The second song also starts on an acoustic intro. It is a bit slower than the first one, but pretty much along the same lines musically. Another catchy one. Worth noting is that the third song accounts for half the playing time of this demo, so the first two are actually pretty short. It is long enough to give a better idea of their capabilities, with lots of tempo changes, and lots of melodies, and an overall atmospheric feeling to it (without throwing some crappy keyboards at us. ;)) I think this is a pretty good first effort. I'd describe the music as good mix of black and death metal. Some of the stuff need a little work, but overall this is good quality material. Everytime I listen to this, I ask myself how it would sound with cleaner (yet aggressive) vocals. Somehow, at times it seemed like the growls didn't fit too much with the song - but keep in mind that I've never been a fan of growling vocals to begin with. ;)I also need to mention the booklet, which contains all the lyrics and the contact information (but no e-mail or web site though... 2001 anyone?) Nice booklet for a demo. Anyway, fans of extreme metal should check those guys out. |
