I have been waiting for this one a long time, after the massive Let Battle Commence waaaay back in 2003, Doomsword seemed to kind of disappear. There were side projects like Gjallarhorn, but nary a whisper of a new album, until at last the grand new opus was upon us. My Name Will Live On is a marvelous new epic of Viking Metal feasting.

"Death of Ferdia" starts things off with killer riffs and a great stomping chorus, and other songs on here are as good or better, with "Days of High Adventure" and "Steel of My Axe" ranking among the greatest Doomsword songs ever. The production is probably their best ever, with heaviness leavened with clarity, so that every note of the first-rate solos can be clearly heard. Deathmaster's vocals have rarely sounded as good as they do here, and every piece seems to fall right into place. This is a less immediately accessible album than previous Doomsword works, with a lot more layers and complexity. You really have to pay attention to this if you want to get the full effect. A cursory listen would lead you to think this is not as good as Resound the Horn, but that would be wrong. This is the best album yet by this uncompromising band. Sit down, pop on the good headphones, and really listen to this metal masterwork. Doomsword deliver exactly what we wanted from them: crunching, thundering Viking Steel, washed in blood and tempered in arctic ice. Raise your horns!
