Here's a little something you may not have known. Before there was Sodom, before there was Kreator, Destruction or any other metal band out of Germany, there were these guys. Germany's most ancient metal export, and one of the earliest metal bands in general. Operating under the Faithful Breath moniker since the 1960's, they decided to rename themselves during the thrash explosion and released "The Daily Horror News". Pitifully, a remarkable band such as Risk has remained nothing more than a footnote four decades later, with only a handful of souls who seem to remember them. They were already geezers when metal kind of took off, so that may be a contributing factor - because clearly, it couldn't possibly have been the quality of music that deterred their success or notability.

Risk's debut - "The Daily Horror News" is a mega feasting of non-stop headbanging, thrashing mayhem with a belly full of solos and choruses. When this band fires on the afterburners, you really have to think hard about who comes close. Like Angel Dust, Risk played shredding and catchy thrash metal that was not so focused on "evil" like the big 3 German bands, but more rocking thrash tunes with hooks and solos.

There really isn't a stinker on this album at all. All guns blazing thrashfests like "Road War" and "Strike" accompany big, heavy stompers like "DNS Madness" and "Alien Terror". "Clean" thrash fans may have trouble keeping their pants dry during their first exposure to "The Daily Horror News"... Or the band Risk in general. Their crowning jewel - 1992's "The Reborn" slowed things down and focused more on heaviness and more melody, rather than the speed and aggression of "The Daily Horror News", but this album smokes almost just as much. Give it a go. It might be difficult to find an actual copy, but that's where the Internet comes into play ;)
