I rather enjoyed this band's Ballet of the Brute several years ago, and so despite the trendiness in evidence I was willing to give this a shot. Hatesphere plug themselves as 'melodic death/thrash', that pretty much covers it, except for the 'death/thrash' part. Since their last album, Hatesphere have turned further into a Soilwork clone, now avoiding the metalcore curse by imitating the rat-tat-tat-yap-yap-yap school of Gothenburg swill. There are some enjoyable riffs on this album, but the yapping dog vocals spoil them thoroughly, and the clichéd and tired songwriting is not good enough to overcome the vocal failure. Too bad. |
