Dekapitator is a band on a mission to bring back the glory days of Bay Area thrash of yesteryear. For those of you not familiar with the band it is composed of members of the death metal band Exhumed. Do not let this fact make you thing that Dekapitator is some sort of death/thrash hybrid; they are thrash metal all the way. They have a sound that is similar to Destruction with bits of Exodus. The vocals remind me of Cronos with some Shmier like shrieks thrown in for good measure.

Talking about this album is difficult without constantly comparing it to their killing debut album. The guitars are really crunchy and the drumming is pretty fast. The album is not as fast as it feels like it should be. A lot of the songs feel a little bit more mid paced than the break neck speed that they should be. The highlight of the album in my opinion is the vocals. Matt Hellfiend has the perfect voice for thrash, harsh, abrasive, and able to hit shrieks when needed. The back up vocal chorus fit perfectly with the music as well.

This is a great album, especially in a time when excellent thrash is hard to come by. This album sounds like it is straight out of the Bay Area 80s which is probably the sound the band wanted and is just what I like. I didn't want to compare The Storm Before the Calm to We Will Destroy...You Will Obey!!! but I have to just say that this is not as neck snapping as their debut. If you are a fan of thrash in the least pick up this album and their debut because both kill, but if you need one to start on, We Will Destroy... You Will Obey is the one to start with. Definitely Recommended.
