I've been spinning this album ever since I reviewed "Target of Hate" a few weeks ago, and I still can't find all that much to say that did not also apply to that album. Well, that's not too bad since in my opinion, Must Missa fucking kill, so if I have to listen to something over and over, it might as well be one of their albums. :) "Martyr of Wrath" barely deviates from the path taken in "Target of Hate", which is probably a good thing since good bands that try to get too cute just for the sake of change often end up sucking. If anything, Must Missa just got better. We are once again treated to some hate-filled, aggressive, raw, metal-as-fuck old school blackened Thrash metal that leave the listener with the feeling that he's just been run over by a convoy of 18 wheelers loaded with steel. The band sounds tighter than on the previous album, but also slightly heavier and even more aggressive and in-your-face, and the band even managed to throw in a pinch of a malevolent atmosphere that pops up just in the right places. At a little over 34 minutes, the album is just the right length to beat the living crap out of thrashers the world over and prevent filler crap from creeping in. Simply put, this is an unholy blend of early Venom, Destruction, Sodom, Darkthrone and, well, you get the idea. Pure black/thrash madness. |
