This is the fourth album from Swedish Viking/Black Metal band In Battle, and while it's not bad, I can't say I'm all that impressed with it either. This is very much in the vein of Swedish BM like Marduk, being fast, well-produced, and well-played. The overall sound is rather too slick and modern, contrasting with the Viking/Pagan themes. Also like a lot of modern Death/Black Metal the vocals are generic and too loud, and the songs rely too much on the drums to provide impetus. None of the riffs here are really good, just adequate, although some of the leads are quite good. This is yet another band who don't have enough of an individual sound to stand out, and don't rework their influences well enough to be worth very much of your time. |
