Usually, I'm pretty aware of what's coming promo-wise but, once in a while, an unexpected package shows up in my mailbox. Greg Layman plays guitar in this extreme band called Dimentianon. This same guy also handles Paragon's promo department. The name is a bit familiar but, this is the very first time I'm getting to review their music, which is said to be more experimental and their most polished release to date. Well, the sound is pretty good, a bit raw but when it comes to the drum kit, a certain cardboard sound is coming from the double kit in the bass drums. A mixture of black and death with both rasps and grunts, the last one the best style for its deep and sick sounding vocals. Fast parts with blast beats are most frequently used but Dimentianon also had the good idea to include moderate breaks filled with melodic elements. Lots of good guitar work, either in the cold black metal style riffing, doom-like crushing, tremolo picking, arpeggios (clean and distorted) and even some nice acoustic guitars on track 9, the short instrumental called "To Return That Which is Above to That Which is Below." Wind samplings are blowing in many occasions, while a few electronics and keyboard passages are drawing a pleasantly dark shadow. Then comes something unexpected, hidden/unnamed track #10, lasting almost 24 minutes! Too bad it's all a mystery because it's the best and most epic, adventurous and varied composition that even includes great folksy female vocals. Besides the two songs already mentioned, "Your Flesh is Mine to Exploit" and "Bloodshed From a Black Rose" are to be considered as standing out.
