Surrender or Die is the CD re-issue of Slaughter's demo material. Note that this is the Canadian thrash metal band from the 80's and not the U.S. glam band! Unfortunately, the thrash band didn't last as long (even more unfortunate is that the glam band is STILL around...)

Surrender or Die contains 13 songs - mostly short since they total 30 minutes - of pure, headbanging, in-your-face metal. There's no time spent being technical here, Slaughter lived up to their name and just played to destroy everything in their path. That's pretty much the impression left when listening to this CD. In these days where many bands focus more on being more technical than the other, it's a great relief to hear a band whose music has got attitude, rather than the emptiness of an overly technical playing. Slaughter are anything but technical, and quite frankly, who cares! This CD kicks ass from start to finish. Think of very early 80's thrash influences such as Kill 'em All-era Metallica to give you a little idea of the music here. Raw and fast, fast FAST! One can't not feel the sheer power of Slaughter's music! No wonder that even to this day, the band has had a cult following. Metal!!!!

Negative point: The CD is only 30 minutes long and leaves you begging for more. The sound could be better, but this is demo material after all, and better than many demos sound. Slaughter's material will be re-released in August 2001 by Nuclear Blast. Anyone into thrash metal should pick up whatever they release - just make sure you don't buy the glam junk from the other Slaughter.
