A little over a month ago I had never heard a complete Slayer album.  Yes, I was one of those two guys, now it's down to one :).  I first purchased Seasons In The Abyss, then decided to give Reign In Blood a try, since I kept hearing it was a speed metal classic.

Well, first of all, it really is speedy, although somehow I was expecting it to be even speedier!  It does take some time getting used to.  It took me a while to start liking it, because most of the songs sort of sound alike if you do not pay close attention (for the record, the volume on my stereo is always somewhat low, for a variety of reasons.)  So I ended up spending some time doing nothing but listen closely to the songs.  It is then easier to find the "musical variety" and appreciate the album a little more.  It's just one of those album that need some attention :).  The vocals are alright, I like the fact that the singer resisted using "growling" vocals as is often the case with "extreme music".  The drums are great, but that's to be expected since it's Dave Lombardo's work.  All in all, an interesting speedy speed metal experience that you will either love or hate.  Give it some time if you don't like it the first couple of times.

The original 1986 release is a little over 28 minutes long.  I have the remastered version which adds two tracks bringing the total duration to 34:46.  I have to say that it really shows that they were not on the original album: they sound like they simply don't belong there.
