It has become frequent lately to find out that a band sees its back catalog being re-issued. I've received some earlier work of Marduk, Naglfar and I'm expecting Gorgoroth any time soon. So, when I saw that a promo of Limbonic Art was coming, I didn't do too much investigation. It was a big surprise then for me to find out this brand new Legacy of Evil, since I was sure they had disbanded for good! I remember some of their earlier great musical work like: Moon ins Scorpio and In Abhorrence Dementia. I was curious to see what this new one would sound like. From what I can recall, Limbonic Art was strongly using fast / blast beats with nice symphonic orchestrations in a somewhat futuristic environment. Well, the blast beats are present, and there's an abundance of them. The symphonic parts and orchestrations have decreased quite a bit but still remain a very distinctive and nicely melodic aspect of their song structure while keeping that cool futuristic edge shining. Legacy of Evil is too fast for my own taste and quite a few songs are built on this beat. Add to this the raspy/clean kind of vocals and mid-range sounding, somewhat muddy production. No, this is not a crystal clear work. The bass drum is not a pounding one like one would expect. Not raw as such but muddy in general I would say. Fortunately, some calmer/mid-paced parts are also included with crushing guitars, theatrical/wicked vocals and nice musical arrangements. My favorite moments were found on: Grace by Torments, Lycanthropic Tales and Twilight Omen. |
