Amazing how quickly Freedom Call descended from refreshing to utterly without value in so short a time. This will be a short review, because there's not much to say about this album, and less that's good. Freedom Call were always happy and flowery, but they wrote such catchy tunes that nobody held that against them too much. It's depressing that the band that produced fine tunes like "Rise Up" and "Land Of The Light" has been reduced to this kind of sloppy singsongy bullshit. The songs on "Dimensions" range from utterly bland to completely unlistenable. Even the worst cuts off "Crystal Empire" are better than the 'good' songs on here, only there are no good songs, just bad and worse. A single example should suffice here: on "Innocent World", two-thirds of the way in, they kick in a fucking children's choir for the chorus. That alone gets them drop-kicked off my radar forever. Goodbye Freedom Call, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. |
