Nifelheim have been around for many years now, and this is their fourth full-length album of chaotic Black/Thrash mayhem. Despite the good things I have heard about this band, I don't find this disc all that exciting. This is 'thrashy' only in the sense of having a slightly less trebly production job than regular Black Metal is prone to. Songwriting and vocal-wise this is straight up Black Metal, with a tin-pot production job and boring screamy vocals. The leads are pretty good, and that's a plus, as the lead sound is the loudest mixed one here. The actual riffs are almost impossible to hear, and the rhythm sound is so weak-ass that's probably a good thing. This is a decent listen, but it's not going to really get your rocks off. |
