This is one of about a billion bands called Nightmare, but this one has been around for about twenty-some years already. This French band formed in frigging 1984, despite that they have only managed six proper albums, this being the latest one.

I have no idea if this is a change in sound from their old albums. Probably, considering how modern this sounds. On this album Nightmare crank out a hard and heavy brew not far removed from straight-up bands like Firewind or Mystic Prophecy. This is a solid blend of hard hitting riffs backed up by a killer production job and rather Dio-esque vocals that fit the music to a T. The whole is a powerful, slick, modern sound that may put off those expecting a more NWOBHM sound, but is good enough that I think almost any metal fan will like it.

That said, the songwriting is not that original, and the songs are not all that memorable after they are over. There are plenty of bands playing this kind of glossy Heavy Metal nowadays, and while Nightmare aren't standing above the crowd in any way, they are definitely keeping up with the Joneses.
