My European cousin Löic Cellier has to be one of the most versatile artists I've come across lately. Not only is he responsible for all the lyrics, music AND playing all the instruments, which is already quite amazing, but he also recorded and mixed it all himself. As if it was not enough, Löic took all the photos and took care of all the artwork. That's what I call a great artist!
"Chemins de Souffrance" is a two part CD. The first chapter, "Allégorie d'une Souffrance (1-4)" is a re-vamped and re-recorded version of the '98 demo of the same name, while part 2, "Les Chemins de la Mort", is brand new material. Belenos had previously recorded four demos and as many full lengths since 1996. Black metal it is (Celtic Black metal according to Northern Silence) and the somber, frequent acoustic breaks sure give the music a haunted feel. Dark, intense and depressive sound tracks, very well recorded to kick, crush and annihilate the listener in an infernal maze that just kept attracting those listening ears of mine. The darkness of "Chemins de Souffrance" is omnipresent and the acoustic passages are as black as the furious moments.
Two thumbs up here and plus for these excellent compositions: "Oraison Funèbre", "Le Domaine des Songes acte 1", "War Went an Ancou" and "Noz-Veil."
